The term DPI stands for “Dents Per Inch” and measures how many dents (slots) a loom reed has per inch.
In Europe, this measurement is calculated using centimeters (specifically per 10 cm), whereas in the US, it is measured in inches. For example, a European 20/10 reed has 20 dents per 10 cm.
Converting US to European: If you are using a US pattern, simply multiply the DPI by 4 to find the approximate European metric equivalent (dents per 10 cm).
Converting European to US: Conversely, if you prefer using the US system, divide the European number by 4 to find the approximate DPI.
The following table summarizes the approximate Imperial (US) dpi conversions for all the loom reeds available in our store:
| European dpi | Imperial dpi |
|---|---|
| 20/10 | 5 |
| 30/10 | 7.5 |
| 40/10 | 10 |
| 50/10 | 12.5 |
| 60/10 | 15 |
| 70/10 | 17.5 |
| 80/10 | 20 |
| 90/10 | 22.5 |
